MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Mendoza Family Fund, created in partnership with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society,
was established by Fernando Mendoza and his family in honor of his mom, Elsa, who has been
living with multiple sclerosis for 18 years.
A portion of proceeds from this limited edition artwork will benefit the Mendoza Family Fund,
helping advance the family’s commitment to the MS community and accelerating research
toward cures for MS and improving access to affordable treatment.

From One Family’s Fight to a National Movement

Since Elsa’s diagnosis in 2008, the Mendozas have been deeply committed to making a difference for all families living with this disease. Alberto and Fernando’s fundraising journey began with something simple: a burrito. While playing quarterback for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley, Fernando partnered with his favorite restaurant, La Burrita, to launch the Mendoza Burrito campaign. All proceeds from the burrito, which nodded to his Cuban heritage, went to the Society. That campaign went on to raise 25x the original goal. When Fernando transferred to Indiana, joining Alberto, the brothers expanded their impact through partnerships with two beloved local restaurants: BuffaLouie’s introduced the Mendoza Bros. Burger, and Gables Bagels created the Mendoza Bros. Cubano. The local community, supporters across the country and even rival fans rallied behind the cause, raising more than $360K and proving that football can be about far more than what happens on the field.
